They can be used with 2D tile based maps, and the underlying algorithms used to generate the maps may also be used in the future for 3D maps.
I will come back to random dungeon generation in the future, to improve maps with items and entrances and exits. Maybe early next year? My reasoning being that I plan to write a pathfinding algorithm early next year, which will be used to place items strategically.
My focus has now shifted to getting drag and drop to work in the UI so that items can be implemented.
